Welcome to the Warrington Group

Within these pages you will find information relating to our group, where we meet, upcoming speakers and any projects we are carrying out.

The group meet at the Halliwell Jones Rugby Stadium, opposite Tesco Supermarket on Winwick Road, access is through the main entrance. The meetings will start at 7.00 p.m., because the rooms have to be vacated by 9.00 p.m.. The room will be open from 6.30 p.m., and is on the first floor in the Education, Training and Development Room, just past the Dining Room. There is a lift available if required.

We have been requested to park at the west end opposite the car park entrance next to the hedge, so as not to interfere with Tesco's shoppers and hope this will not be inconvenient to anybody. If you have any problems with these arrangements or comments please contact us via our contact page

The Great War 1914-1918

Madelaine Kirk

Subtitled Their Glory Shall not be Blotted Out, which was taken from an inscription on one of the graves as requested by the soldier's family.

The book covers the Fallen from Culcheth, Risley, Croft, Winwick and Glazebury. Most of the information was found online but the best information came from newspaper reports. Both Leigh and Warrington Library's hold archived collections from the local newspapers. The people who worked so hard on the indexing of the newspapers are to be commended. Warrington Family History Group published a series of books for the Warrington Library Archives. I understand that the Leigh and Wigan Archives did the Leigh Journal Archives.

The author says "It has been a real labour of love and I will continue searching for the people in this area who were wounded or imprisoned and returned home".

It costs £6 with any profits going to the British Legion in Culcheth.

We have meetings on the every month apart from July, August, and December and we hold our AGM in January. For more details of upcoming meetings please see our Programme page.
